Description

Ce puissant château féodal, construit au XIIIème siècle par la famille de La Tour d’Auvergne, a appartenu en descendance directe aux Reines Catherine de Médicis et Marguerite de Valois. Cette dernière en fit don au Roi Louis XIII pour l’aider à asseoir son autorité encore fragile.
Il revit aujourd’hui pour votre plaisir.
Parfait exemple de grand château médiéval et remarquablement restauré, cette importante forteresse témoigne de l’architecture militaire du Moyen Age : fossé, remparts, chemin de ronde, tours à créneaux et mâchicoulis. Il a été agrandi et embelli jusqu’ au XVème siècle, sous l’influence de la Renaissance. Au XVIIème furent créés des jardins à la française dont la restauration commence à être entreprise.
